17/12/2011: Cavanda in the running for Udinese spot.

After a solid display against Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday, it is believed that Luis Pedro Cavanda may find himself in the starting line-up once again as regular right-back Abdoulaye Konko fights to be fit.

Reports in Italy suggest that Reja sees Cavanda's pace as a vital ingredient in holding off Udinese's left-wing bomber, Pablo Armero and this may see him chosen over other candidates.

Reja and Cavanda have had a turbulent history. Last season, Cavanda was dropped from the first-team after a costly mistake saw Milos Krasic snatch three points for Juventus in the dying seconds of Lazio's game with the Turin giants. Subsequently, Cavanda was sent out on loan to Juventus' archenemies Torino in Serie B where he failed to make any sort of breakthrough.

This season, Cavanda has struggled for game time and it is believed that the player wants to go out on loan again in January.

After the Sporting Lisbon game, Edy Reja made it known that he wants Cavanda to work harder for his spot in the Lazio side:

"If he had another head, he would not be moved from this team. I hope he matures as the league goes on as in the past, he has been unprofessional. He is important if he comes of age."

The unprofessional incidents that Reja alluded to are many. When in the running for a starring role against Vaslui, he had a bust-up with Reja which saw him demoted to the Primavera. Two years ago, when on duty with the youth team, he threw his shirt to the ground in disgust at being substituted and refused to travel with the team to Milan.

Playing Cavanda against Udinese would be a huge gamble, but it is a gamble Edy Reja is considering taking.
