  16/03/2011: Olimpia – Lazio Eagle

Olimpia is a female American golden eagle. Her original name is Dulcinea, and has purchased from the Iberian Eagle & Victory Srl for € 7,500 together with 3 falconers. She is 12 kilograms in weight, and has a wingspan of eight feet.

Following a survey conducted by Lazio and fans, on 1st October 2010 it has been assigned her new name as OLIMPIA.

The first Olimpia attraction at Olimpico stadium was on 22 September 2010, just before the kick off of Lazio-AC Milan, gracefully hovering above the grass of the Stadio Olimpico with the blue and white ribbons trailing. The game itself ended with 1-1.

Olimpia lives in Formello, and being well taken care by a veterinarian and accompanied by the three falconers. She eats chicken, salmon or rabbit once a day.

Juan Bernabé is her trainer with his brother José María Bernabé that accompanies it on the lawn of the Roman stage during her performances. According to Juan Bernabé Olimpia age is 5 years and can live up to 80.

On 25 October 2010, before Lazio-Cagliari game Olimpia fly around the stadium before kick-off, but this time it went a little wrong as the bird decided it wanted to stay perched at the top of the arena and not come down. The eagle remained up there watching the match. The game ended with 2-1 for Lazio victory.
