  04/04/2012: Primavera: Roma - Lazio 1-1 (0-0)
email print
After the first team won both derbies this season it was time for the young Primavera team to defend the biancocelesti colours when they travelled to Roma's training complex Trigoria for the second derby of the season.

The first derby was played earlier in the season at Formello and ended in a 3-3- draw, with Lazio coming back after being down 1-3.

After suffering many injuries this season like the first team coach Alberto Bollini could finally field most of his starters today, with only captain Luca Crescenzi missing. Crescenzi was fighting hard to play the derby, but is now expected to be ready in one week.

LAZIO (4-3-3):
Berardi; Serpieri (83' Ilari), Sbraga, Vilkaitis, Marin; Cataldi ('80 Tira), Zampa, Onazi; Vivacqua (61' Sani), Rozzi, Barreto

Unused subs: Mosciatti, Salustri, Cilfone, Catalin, Denè.

Goals: 49' Tallo (R), 89' Sani (L)

Before the match started there was 1 minute of silence for Giorgio Chinaglia and all Lazio players played with a black armband in honour of him.

When the match started it did not take long before the first chance of the match. After only 1 minute Onazi suddenly had the ball in Roma's penalty area. His shot went on target, but Roma goalkeeper Pigliacelli pulled off an excellent save.

Then just one minute later it was Roma's turn, but Lazio goalkeeper and captain of the day Alessandro Berardi somehow managed to save the shot.

After 6 minutes midfield Cataldi won the ball for Lazio in the midfield and played the ball long to striker Antonio Rozzi. Rozzi found himself in a good position but the shot was saved.

After 21 minutes Roma tried again with a long range shot, but Berardi seemed impossible to beat in the first half. When the referee blew the whistle at half time it was thanks to both teams goalkeepers that the score was still 0-0.

After the break Roma took the advantage and in the 49th minute Tello put the ball in the net for the giallorossi.

10 minutes later Rozzi got the ball and managed to slip past two Roma defenders and beat the Roma goalkeepers. Unfortunately for Lazio the ball went in the post.

In the 66th minute the Nigerian striker Emmanuel Sani came on for Vivaqua and this proved to be a genius move by coach Bollini. Just before the 90th minute Sani picked up the ball on a Lazio corner and put it in the back of the net. Lazio finally got their equalizer!

After that both teams went for the victory, but it was Roma that created the biggest chance. Again it was Tello who came alone with Berardi and tried to dribble past the goalkeepers. Unfortunately for him the goalkeepers was unstoppable with a man of the match performance.

Despite Lazio not losing a derby this season, this result mean Roma is most likely to finish 1st in the league before the play-offs. Lazio are still 1 point ahead of the rivals but with two matches more.

The exciting part is now who Lazio will play in the Quarter Finals of the competition, something we will now in the end of the month.

Vivaqua 5.5 Rozzi 6.5 Barreto 6

Tira: N/A
Ilari: N/A

Bollini: 6.5

Man of the Match: Alessandro Berardi

Excellent performance by Lazio's 3rd choice goalkeeper. With several match winning saves and good arial abilities on every set piece the goalkeeper was the stand-out performer today.

Flop of the Match: Enrico Zampa

The midfielder who has several times this season been involved with the first team worked hard today but was out-shined by his two partners in the midfield and looked insecure when he had the ball.

Honourable Mention: Nicolae Marin

At only 16 year the Romanian left back is the youngest player in the team. For the first half of the season he was not involved much but in the last couple of months the defender have made the left back position his own. Other then being a little late on Roma's goal he put in a solid performance today and it will be exciting to follow his development. Is also the set-piece taker in the team.
