  28/05/2012: Stefano Mauri arrested
email print
Stefano Mauri was one of a number of individuals who was arrested this morning for suspected involvement in the Italian match-fixing scandal.

Lazio have been under investigation for many months now as two games from the 2011/12 season are said to be suspicious. The games were in May and they were the two final games of the season against Genoa and Lecce.

Both games finished in a 4-2 victory for Lazio and in both games, the score was level at half-time. According to Lazialita', the Italian prosecutors have admitted that it is the parallels between games that concerns them.

This may then also be correlated to Andrea Masiello's admission that he scored an own-goal deliberately in the derby between Bari and Lecce in the same week as Lazio's game with Genoa. Likewise, the score was level in that game at half-time and Lecce ended up winning by a two-goal margin.

Suspicion in Lazio's games was raised by Giuseppe Sculli's widely reported visit to the Geno dressing room at half-time in Lazio's game with Genoa. This is said to come an incident reported by La Reppublica where both Sculli and Genoa's Domenico Criscito held a meeting with a known Bosnian criminal who is suspected of being involved in a betting ring.

Omar Milanetto, who was captain of Genoa at the time has also been arrested. There are a total of seven Serie A clubs under investigation.
