Today Lazio played for a spot in the final of the Italian primavera competition this season. However, there was something more important at stake then just reaching the final for the first time since 2001 when Bollini took the title after defeating Pescara. On the other side of the field were city neighbours Roma, and for the fans the most important thing was winning the first derby of the season after the first two ended in a draw.
On the stands were Igli Tare and for the first time seen in public, Vladimir Petkovic. Surely a good sign that the new coach travelled to see the youngsters in his first week of his new job.
Both teams approached the match carefully and it was hard for both teams to break through the defences. It was then Lazio midfielder Enrico Zampa showed some magic scoring with a beautiful long-range shot. Lazio surely wanted to have this lead at half time, but in the 46th minute Viviani scored for Roma. Another fine goal.
Lazio again took the lead in the second half when Emmanuel Sani again scored for Lazio. The Nigerian striker scored two goals in the Quarter Finals against Torino and has been in fine form this spring after Ceccarelli left the club on loan.
After this Roma did everything to get a goal, and Lazio took the opportunity. Rozzi scored Lazio's third goal of the evening with a tap-in and sealed the victory for the Biancocelsti.
On Saturday 21.00 CET most football fans will most likely be watching Germany against Portugal, but for laziali around the world all eyes will be on the Lazio youngsters playing their first final for twelve years. The other semifinal also have an exciting derby with Milan - Inter. That match will be played tomorrow.
