07/06/2012: The Primavera Scudetto in 2001
email print
On Saturday Lazio will play Inter in the final of the Primavera competition this season. It has truly been a season with many highlights and a lot of the credit have to go to coach Alberto Bollini.

Bollini took over a primavera team in crisis two seasons ago and results quickly improved. However, it is not the first time Bollini has coached the Lazio youngsters. Bollini was coaching the Primavera team from 1999 to 2003 and in 2001 he won the scudetto with the young eagles. It is so far his only trophy in Italian football after also coaching strong sides like Fiorentina and Sampdoria.

The first big test was the derby against Roma in the 1/8-finals. Lazio drew 1-1 away and managed to beat Roma 4-3 at Formello.

In the Quarter Finals Lazio beat Atalanta 1-0, and they also won 1-0 in the Semi Finals against Bari.

The final was played on June 7th in Ancona aganst rivals Pescara.

The lineups for this match was:

Lazio: Favazza, Ola, Minieri, Domizzi, Santarelli, Luciani, Foschini (81' Dal Rio), Varriale, Volpe, Ruggiu, Berrettoni (85' Turchetta)

Unused subs: Scotti, D'Amato, Candido, Anderson

Pescara: Circello, D'Addazio (79' Mastracchio), Mammarella, Valente, Pomante, Mucciante, Stella, Vitone, Felci (46' Franchetti), Romano, Croce

Unused subs: Bifulco, Felice, Fulco, Corti

Lazio took the lead early with a goal from Daniel Foschini in the 15th minute. Just 1 minute in to the second half Berrettoni sealed the victory for the Biancocelesti.

This was the fourth scudetto for the Lazio Primavera after also winning in 1976, 1987 and 1995, and the first and only trophy for Alberto Bollini.

Looking at Lazio's lineup none of the heroes turned out to be long serving players for the club, the most successful one is Maurizio Domizzi who has had played for big clubs like Sampdoria and Napoli, and is now a key member of the high-flying Udinese.

Hopefully Bollini can do it again on Saturday and we will soon see one of the youngsters as a regular member of Lazio's first team.
