  16/06/2012: Corriere: "Barnetta is close"
email print

Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport claim that free-agent Tranquillo Barnetta will sign for Lazio in the next few days.

The Swiss international has been released by Bayer Leverkusen after a long spell on the sidelines but came back with a bang including a storming performance for Switzerland against England at Wembley. Apparently he has been requested by new boss Petkovic and Lotito and Tare are looking to please the new manager.

According to il Corriere, the deal could be wrapped up in a week and the 27 year old would be an alternative on the wing to Konko and Gonzalez.

Barnetta has an Italian passport and would give Lazio much needed pace for Petkovic's attacking football.
