Ederson was finally unveiled as a Lazio player today bringing an end to a 5-year pursuit for the ex-Nice and Lyon midfielder:
"Today, I am really happy to be a player of Lazio. There has been a pursuit for a few years and it is great to finally be in Italy at a big club like Lazio. I thank the President for his kind words, I will give my best and I cannot wait for this adventure to begin."
Asked how he would celebrate his first goal, Ederson stated his intention to celebrate 'like a child' and maybe even do an impression of Olimpia in flying like an eagle.
Asked about his injury troubles, Ederson said it was a boost to hear that a club like Lazio wanted him. He said that he always felt he should go to Rome despite offers from elsewhere and he said his injuries are in the past and he looks forward to achieving continuity with Lazio.
Ederson has a desire to play directly behind the strikers where Hernanes has found himself in recent seasons: "My natural role is behind the strikers or as a second striker. I played five different positions at Lyon, the key is to get in the box."
Ederson admitted to being impressed by Claudio Lotito:
"I have been struck by the President's words - he told me we must win. I have come for this, Lazio have won many trophies, I think the goal is to reach the Champions League and be among the leaders of the league."
Asked about any ambition to be playing for Brazil in World Cup 2014, Ederson said that his priority is to do the best he can with Lazio or else the opportunity will never arise.
Ederson will wear the number 10. He requested it as it is a number he has achieved success with and it is considered important to wear in Brazil. Ederson said he is delighted to wear it, but that number 7 would also have been fine for him.
