13/07/2012: Auronzo di Cadore: Day Five
email print
The morning session of day five was devoted to athletic work but the rain had been so relentless overnight and into the morning that Vladimir Petkovic's idea of how the session should play out was surely in jeopardy? Not quite is perhaps the best answer to that. There was even lightning today but Petkovic is not put off by much and he sent the boys out regardless. The agenda was clear - athletic work - but the rain simply made that impossible. It was not long before Petkovic had a 7 v 7 game underway but he seemingly deemed that to be too dangerous in the end and focused instead on shooting drills. The least productive session of the week. Petkovic may have the squad under control but if there is one thing the morning session taught us, it is that Petkovic is only human is his failure to master the elements.

The evening session began in much the same vain as the first. Petkovic and his staff set up cones around the pitch and the brief was to create opportunities for each other to score with the individual winner being whoever could find the net 10 times first. Up stepped Sergio Floccari to claim that particular accolade.

A practice match brought today's session to a conclusion. Petkovic opted to ask both sides to play 4-4-2 and they were evenly matched in the end as the game ended 0-0. The teams were as follows:

Orange: Bizzarri, Scaloni, Biava, Stendardo, Zauri; Candreva, Hernanes, Cana, Lulic; Rocchi, Floccari

Blue: Marchetti, Konko, Diakite, Dias, Garrido, Gonzalez, Ederson, Ledesma, Mauri, Kozak, Zarate

Patterns are beginning to emerge. Once again, Stendardo finds himself partnering Biava while Dias partners Diakite' and in a 4-4-2 formation, Cana and Hernanes are again deployed in the middle of the field. Tomorrow we will receive a truer indication as the players will be tasked with a local team from Auronzo di Cadore. This is a traditional affair that usually sees Lazio bang in goals somewhere in the double figure regions which may be a good thing - Petkovic's 'aggressive' Lazio have been anything but freescoring in the inter-team friendlies and this is a good opportunity to build up some much needed confidence on that front.

Stendardo partnered Dias at day 4 according to your own report Cathal but Petko seems to favor a Cana-Hernanes partnership.. or atleast try it a few times.
