Lazio opened the campaign with an away win over Atalanta which gived Petkovic his second win on Lazio's bench and a second clean sheet.

"There was a bit of emotion but I tried to remove all of these feelings. It's Important for us to keep our feet on the ground and keep working. I was expecting something more over the last month and a half and today Lazio gave me a good answer. We are getting close to the team I want."

"Colantuono said Atalanta deserved to win? Lazio suffered in the first 20 minutes, but not too much. This is normal on the road, espescially in a stadium like this in Bergamo. Then we played good football, creating chances and pressing a lot. Lazio deserved the win."

Petkovic had been heavily criticised following a lacklustre preseason, Petkovic commented: "I followed Italian football from abroad and I know that Rome is a complicated place. Football is part of what is happening and will happen. Sometimes we have to suffer but it's part of the football-business. Today we saw new ideas, mixed with old ideas that have brought a good performance and a victory."
