07/09/2012: Ceccarelli: "I want to do well this season"
email print
Until the final day of the mercato Tommaso Ceccarelli's future seemed a mystery. It was reported that the Lazio management had rejected loan offers from various clubs in Serie B for Ceccarelli and other young players, trying to force them to move to Salernitana in Serie C2.

Only six months ago the young Roman was considered the most promising youngster Lazio had seen in years after banging goals in every week for the Lazio Primavera. In January he got a chance to move to Juve Stabia in Serie B, but his adventure for The Wasps was a nightmare. Right after he moved down south he was injured for over two months, and after he finally recovered he had a hard time breaking in to the team. Part of the reason was that Juve Stabia played a classic 4-4-2 formation where Ceccarelli was used as a midfielder. Ceccarelli has always been at his best when he can play in a more attacking role in a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 like he has always played for several Lazio youth sides.

On August 31st, just hours before the transfer window closed Ceccarelli was sent to Virtus Lanciano on loan for the season. The club from Abruzzo won the play-off finals after finishing 4th in Serie C1 last season. On paper this club should fit Ceccarelli more since the play with a 4-3-3 formation and are known for giving young players time on the pitch.

After completing his medical today Ceccarelli was interviewed by

What are your feeling right now?

"I am happy to arrive at Lanciano, it is different from when I arrived in Castellamare in January. It was difficult there after being injured right away, but I feel I learnt a lot and I arrive now with a positive attitude."

Are you regretting not staying at the Primavera for the entire season?

"No. It was time I moved on, and I do not regret it, and even if life was not perfect at Juve Stabia I would have done the same again. I followed my former team-mates and cheered for them against Inter."

How did you experience the long wait this summer before August 31st?

"It was indeed a long summer. I had to train alone at Formello, and for a guy like me that was not easy. Fortunately, the last day I was given the opportunity to go away. I thank the club for everything, and especially my agent Giampiero Pocetta who worked to make this happen until the last day, without conflicting with anyone."

Have you had a chance to make an opinion about the new coach? How do you rate Lazio so far this season?

"I had no way of getting to know Petkovic. The team however I have seen and I was impressed against both Palermo and Atalanta. They are playing very well, and it is a pleasure to see how they are moving in the field."

Being a Roman and a Laziale, are you dreaming about returning to play for Lazio?

"I still have three years on my contract with Lazio. If I am able to impress in Serie B and continue to grow and establish myself there then I am hoping to get a chance. Lazio is the team of my heart where I have grown up after being a part of the team since I was a child. If there is no chance I will have to move forward and try something else. For now my goal is just to do as well as possible with Lanciano, then in the future we will see."
