30/01/2013: Pereirinha close, Lazio negotiate for Laxalt, Xhaka and Felipe Anderson

Sporting's 24 year-old full-back, Bruno Pereirinha is on the verge of signing for Lazio. The Portuguese player, primarily a right-back who could potentially play as a right winger or on the right side of midfield, is a versatile option and his price has attracted Lazio. Out-of-contract in the summer and with Sporting suffering with financial troubles, he is expected to come in and bolster Lazio's options with Lionel Scaloni leaving for Atalanta.

He is expected to become Lazio's first signing of the mercato.

Meanwhile, Zarate's proposed move to Dynamo Kiev frees up funds for another transfer or two. Lazio have made a 2.5 million offer for Uruguay's attacking midfielder Diego Laxalt. The Uruguayan U-20 international shot to prominence following an impressive campaign in the youth equivalent of the Copa Libertadores, where his club Defensor Sporting progressed to the final. That saw him go on trial to Chelsea, who declined to make an offer. Laxalt is currently breaking through at Defensor and having scored a wonderful goal against Brazil's U-20 side this month, he is back on the radar of European clubs.

More established options exist in Granit Xhaka of Borussia Münchengladbach and Santos' Felipe Anderson. Igli Tare is a big fan of the Swiss midfielder who impressed for FC Basel in the Champions League last season and it is believed that both parties are currently locked in negotiations. Meanwhile Lazio have sent representatives to Brazil to try and secure the signing of Felipe Anderson. The 19 year-old is a regular in the Santos team and has impressed many, but his asking price of 10 million euro is considered too steep, although Lazio hope to get that figure down as the mercato draws to a close.
