25/03/2013: On This Day: March 25
email print
Not too many games happened on this day, which make me easier to write it down. In 1956, the US president was Dwight D. Eisenhower. In that week of March people were listening to Poor People of Paris by Les Baxter. In UK, Rock And Roll Waltz by Kay Starr was in the top 5 hits. Love Me Tender, directed by Robert D. Webb, was one of the box office movies during the week, Lazio hold by Bologna with a 2-2 draw this Sunday at stadio Olimpico, in front of their 30,000 supporters. Lazio finished this season in 4th place, after Fiorentina (Scudetto), AC Milan, and Inter Milan.

Again, Lazio were held by Inter with 1-1 draw at Olimpico in front of their 70,000 supporters on this day back in 1979. The day when first fully functional space shuttle orbiter, Columbia, is delivered to the John F. Kennedy Space Center to be prepared for its first launch. Unfortunately, Columbia was destroyed on February 1, 2003 while re-entering the atmosphere after a 16-day scientific mission, resulting in the deaths of all crew members aboard.

Today marks the 29th anniversary of the last eruption of the Big Island of Hawaii’s Mauna Loa volcano. At 1:30 a.m. on March 25, 1984, the largest active volcano on Earth woke up suddenly and spectacularly after nine years of slumber, the same day when Lazio erupted against Torino and drowned it by 1-0, on Serie A week 24. Back to Mauna Loa, since 1984, more than $2.3 billion have been invested in new construction on the slopes of Mauna Loa, and the amount increases daily. It is well to remember that Mauna Loa will certainly erupt again, most likely within a few years to a few decades.

When the Happy Land fire was an arson fire that kills 87 people trapped inside an illegal nightclub in the New York City borough of The Bronx on this day in 1990, Lazio were trapped by Genoa with 2-2 draw at Luigi Ferraris stadium.

Clinton visits Pakistan despite fears of ISI ties to Al-Qaeda, gives warning to Pakistani President Musharraf, this was a sunny Saturday, 25 March 2000, the good day when Lazio triumph over their city rival on Derby della Capitale by 2-1 on the scoreline. Two Lazio goals created by Pavel Nedved and Sebastian Veron, in front of 80,000 faithful fans.

The rollercoaster begins, Lazio defeated by Bologna in Renato dall’Arra stadium by 2-1 in 2004. To make things worst, one of Bologna goalscorers was former Lazio top scorer and idol, Giuseppe Signori. He scored 127 goals with Lazio, second to the all-time leading Lazio goalscorer, Silvio Piola.

This was week 29 of Serie A last year, when Lazio collected 3 important points from Cagliari in Rome, and back to third place with 50 points. Thanks to Modibo Diakite with his last minute header, a priceless single goal of the game.

One of Lazio supporter, and a big fan of Giuseppe Signori has been asked by his wife on why he looks so bored even on Sunday, yesterday. He replied briefly: “Because Lazio are not playing”
