18/08/2013: Live Commentary: Juventus - Lazio
email print
23:10 CET - As Juventus step up to lift the Supercoppa Italiana, there is nothing more to say on a night when Lazio finally fell apart. Petkovic has very little time to pick up the pieces and it is back to the drawing board for Lazio. Goodnight folks.

23:01 CET -
Petkovic and the boys go to the Curva Nord to give rather apologetic applause. The Coppa Italia victory feels like some time ago and it will be interesting to see what Lotito will do about this. A little ritiro and a silenzio stampa would not surprise me in the slightest.

22:53 CET -
As referees go, Rocchi has always been fairly fair with us. As Vidal goes down looking for a penalty, Rocchi blows for full-time before 90 minutes have even been played. Juventus have won the Supercoppa Italiana and Petkovic has a lot to think about.

22:49 CET -
This is a friendly affair now. We might as well be waving a white flag because there is no desire to take the game to them and Juventus are perfectly satisfied to pass the ball about and see out the remaining minutes.

22:46 CET -
There is little to talk about. Juventus take off Lichtsteiner who receives quite a few whistles from the Curva Nord and he responds by firing up the Juventini. Adding insult to injury at this stage but he has been the best player on the field tonight by quite some distance.

22:38 CET -
Klose finds himself with a good opportunity to score his first ever goal against Juventus but he doesn't take it. Onazi has an open goal to find with the rebound, but it's a difficult angle and he hits the side netting.

22:36 CET -
Onazi comes on for Hernanes who seems incredibly angry and frustrated. You cannot blame him - it's a bad night for Lazio and he has been as poor as anyone.

22:31 CET -
Candreva sort of tests Buffon and that has been the highlight in the last 5-10 minutes. This game is fizzling out and Lazio look happy to keep the score down.

22:24 CET -
Ledesma and Radu have been hauled off for Floccari and Ederson. Petkovic has not thrown in the towel but Juventus look like they could add a few more.

22:21 CET Lazio 0-4 Juventus.
Officially embarrassing now. A long ball forward in pinballed about the place in the middle of the park and eventually it finds its way into the goal. Inexplicable stuff and it is a debut goal for Carlos Tevez.

22:17 CET - Lazio 0-3 Juventus.
Lichtsteiner is the latest to get in on the act. It is a very well worked move and Lichtsteiner is allowed to waltz into the box. It's a cool finish and surely game over for the Biancocelesti.

22:15 CET - Lazio 0-2 Juventus.
Lazio win a corner and Biglia hits it deep but Lazio make nothing of the opportunity. Juventus break and Lichtsteiner is bursting forward. It is 2-on-1 and Chiellini is free in the box. Lichtsteiner finds him and it's the easiest of tap-ins.

22:11 CET -
Vucinic finds space down the left and he is well clear of Cavanda but the Belgian has pace to burn and gets back to shoulder barge the Montenegrin over. Pirlo wastes the opportunity to put a good ball into the area and Lazio can breathe a sigh of relief.

22:08 CET -
Juventus get the second half underway.

22:05 CET -
The three players who scored against Juventus last season did not start tonight's game - Gonzalez, Mauri and Floccari. Lazio can take heart in the fact that Juventus have not played well but Petkovic has to earn his stripes here and look to make the difference with his bench.

21:51 CET -
Rocchi brings the first half to a close and in truth, Juventus lead and they have not needed to get out of first gear yet.

21:46 CET -
As the end of the half approaches, Juventus are beginning to find space. Both Hernanes and Biglia have looked lost at times and the Old Lady have had a couple of opportunities to breach the defence in the last 2-3 minutes.

21:41 CET -
Radu tries his luck from distance once more but this time, Gianluca Rocchi makes the save.

21:38 CET -
After a scrappy period of play, Lazio build an attack and Radu fires a speculative effort which is whisling just wide of the post but Buffon doesn't know that and has to make the save. Lazio produce nothing from the resulting corner.

21:33 CET -
Good chance for Lazio. Klose finds Candreva and the Italian international dinks a nice cross into the middle of the box but Barzagli is wise to it and steers the ball clear.

21:28 CET - Lazio 0-1 Juventus.
Pogba has made an immediate impact. Juventus are awarded a free-kick in a dangerous position and the Lazio defence are asleep as Pirlo finds Lichsteiner in acres of space. His low cross is deflected to Pogba, who swivels and finds the bottom right corner. An uphill battle now for Lazio.

21:24 CET -
Claudio Marchisio has picked up an injury and he cannot continue. Paul Pogba enters the fray. 21 minutes in and it's still 0-0.

21:22 CET -
Lulic and Candreva may be the keys needed to unlock the Juventus defence. They both have the pace to beat their markers and Cavanda also has a speed advantage over Asamoah. A lot of the play is going through the wings in these early stages.

21:19 CET -
Lazio are playing 4-1-4-1. Biglia is playing alongside Hernanes rather than Ledesma and Lazio have been caught out a few times by this with Biava having to take a few risks in defence. Thankfully, Juventus just have not got going yet.

21:15 CET -
Candreva's corner is punched clear by Buffon but it goes back to Lazio and Biglia has a crack at goal that goes several feet over the crossbar.

21:14 CET -
Lazio have a free-kick in a decent position and Ledesma's deep delivery is on course for Andre Dias at the back post but Vidal puts it behind for a corner.

21:12 CET -
Juventus win a corner and Pirlo's delivery is good but Dias makes light work of it. Pirlo gets a second crack at it but Cavanda is there to deal with it. Lazio win their own corner and there's confusion in the Juventus box but the ball eventually rolls tamely to Buffon.

21:08 CET -
An open start to the game. Ledesma works Buffon with a deflected shot and Klose finds himself running at the Juventus defence moments later but he cannot navigate his way into the box. That could be a running theme tonight.

21:04 CET -
A sloppy start from Lazio as Cavanda gives the ball away tamely and Juventus build an attack. It appears to come to an end when the ball lands with Radu but he makes a meal of it shepherding it out and Juventus keep it in play but the attack fizzles out.

21:03 CET -
Gianluca Rocchi blows his whistle and Miroslav Klose gets the game underway.

20:55 CET -
Nothing like the Curva Nord to get you in the spirit of things. The Stadio Olimpico is an impressive sight and Lazio will need every fan to be at full voice tonight. Speaking of impressive sights, that is one big ass trophy and it seems a shame that that is the prize for winning a single game. I'll not be complaining if we win though...

20:38 CET -
Cavanda's inclusion was certainly forced as it has been confirmed that Konko has not made Lazio's 23-man squad. As for Juventus, they line-up in their familiar 3-5-2 with Carlos Tevez making his debut for the Old Lady;

Buffon; Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini; Lichtsteiner, Vidal, Pirlo, Marchisio, Asamoah; Tevez, Vucinic.

20:30 CET
- Welcome to's live text commentary for the Supercoppa Italiana. 30 minutes to go until kick-off and the nerves are beginning to take a hold of me, especially now that I have seen the official line-up;

Lazio: Marchetti; Cavanda, Dias, Biava, Radu, Candreva, Biglia, Ledesma, Hernanes, Lulic, Klose.

There is only one difference between the official line-up and the line-up that was widely expected as Cavanda comes in for Konko. It is also interesting to note that the club have chosen not to reveal the formation that is being used. A 4-2-3-1 is anticipated but the inclusion of Cavanda has put a spanner in the works.
