05/09/2013: Petkovic: "We must fight for third"
email print
Vladimir Petkovic talks about recent events in today's edition of Corriere dello Sort and insists Lazio must prove their doubters wrong by fighting for third place in Serie A and the Champions League spot:

"The true tragedy was losing the Supercoppa at the Stadio Olimpico. I was a little bit ashamed of how we lost that game, but in Turin, we proved we were men and showed our character. We had 17 shots, 8-9 on target. I like what I saw, although we did not play as we did for an hour against Udinese. That was the real Lazio."

"Of course, we are not the team you saw in the Supercup. Udinese finished ahead of us last year and we beat them well. Hearing that we are destined to finish in seventh or eighth place must motivate us to show how good we are. I have great confidence in this group."

"We must fight for third place. Last year, we managed 61 points which is not bad considering we spent much of the season thinking of the Coppa Italia final, leaving many points behind us. If we had not wasted a few opportunities as well, we would have finished with a much better ranking."

"I don't think we will suffer in attack, numerically speaking. If Floccari plays like he did in the second half of last season, and if our young players adapt, then we wil have no problems."

"lately, Dias has had his chances and played but in the course of a season, others will have a chance to prove their worth. If it's a choice between youth and experience when there is no difference in level, I have said I will always choose youth. We already had four selections in that position, and added a youth player, and then we came unstuck with the numbers."
