16/10/2013: Stendardo: "Lazio are top quality"
email print
Guglielmo Stendardo, who was on Lazio's books between 2005 and 2012 despite many loan spells and contractual disputes, has been one of Serie A's best performers so far this season and as he prepares to welcome Lazio to Bergamo, he has told the media of his admiration for the current Lazio side:

"It will be an important game against one of the strongest teams in the championship. They will be difficult to handle because they have individuals who can make the difference at any moment."

"We need to prepare well and I think we will as last week, we were good physically despite concentrating on our tactics."

"Petkovic has added to the team. He is a good person, very serious, who has proven himself to be a Lazio coach from the outset, which is not easy, and there are recent examples of that. He has done a great job, but then again, their squad is top quality"

Stendardo was asked to give his thoughts on the racism debate that surrounds Serie A at present, particularly the idea of regional discrimination which has become a buzz word in recent weeks as teams have been punished for anti-Naples chants and Stendardo himself is a Neapolitan:

"I am proud to be Italian and Neapolitan. All of us [in Italy] should be proud to have such unique cities. But, we must distinguish between racism and jokes. Racism exists and will continue to exist. You can not penalise an entire section of the crowd based on the actions of a few. We need to catch the culprits and punish them. For the best practices, we should look at the models in Germany and England and focus not only on repression, but also prevention."
