  16/01/2014: Inter want Hernanes, but...

Inter Milan's number one target in the January transfer market appears to be Hernanes. The Brazilian midfielder has been in poor form all season long and despite indicating a desire to remain in Rome, contract negotiations have been on the back burner for what seems like an eternity and according to media speculation, a 20 million price tag has been slapped on his back by Claudio Lotito.

Walter Mazzarri is a big fan of the Brazilian and had designs on him while in charge of Napoli, however, new owner Erick Thohir is adamant that Inter must sell before they can buy. Sky Italia claim that Lotito has agreed to sell if Inter can produce 17 million euro in cash, but the signs are that the club are looking for alternative forms of payment.

The club had intended to sell Fredy Guarin to Chelsea in order to finance the deal, but that fell through when the Londoners opted for Nemanja Matic instead. There is some interest in Guarin from Monaco according to Corriere dello Sport and Atletico Madrid are also keen on the Colombian, although the Spanish giants are in serious debt and are actually rumoured to be intrigued by Hernanes as well.

Inter have reportedly offered Argentine playmaker Ruben Botta and Algerian cenre-forward Ishak Belfodil in a bid to lower the price, only to find that neither Lazio or the players are interested in the exchange.
