  30/05/2014: OFFICIAL: Mauri extends contract
email print
Lazio captain Stefano Mauri has agreed a one year extension with Lazio. Mauri's contract was set to expire at the end of next month but the Monza native is very pleased to have extended his stay in Rome:

"I am very happy. I always said I wanted to continue with this shirt and this armband. I had been waiting for the call from the president which came a few days ago. I'm very happy! We need to improve our ranking, a team like Lazio doesn't deserve to be where it is. We will start again from scratch."

It was a particularly hard year for Mauri who missed 6 months due to suspension for failing to report suspicious behavior. Mauri commented:

"It was almost a year since I last played between injury and suspension. It was not easy to regain match fitness but I am happy for the goals I scored and my 4 assists. It's a pity I regained my form at the end of the season. The first thing I thought after extending my contract? The agreement with the president took place prior to the signing but all the emotions came out when we shook hands. I have always said I wanted to stay here and hopefully end my career at Lazio. This is my second home."

"A message to Biava? I have already personally greeted him. We were roommates at the retreat and I thanked him for everything he had done at Lazio. He was one of the best players of the last few years and we felt his absence when he wasn't playing. We will miss him on and off the field."
