  18/04/2011: The battle for Europe.
email print
Week after week, round after round, the Serie A is building up to it's great finale.

The run for the Scudetto seems already decided in Milan's favour.  But behind the 'rossoneri', there are 6 teams battling for the remaining places in Europe next year.

Of all those teams, Lazio seems to have the toughest battle the next weeks : with away games at Inter and Udinese, and in Olimpico against Juventus.

For the next European season, the first 3 in the Serie A will go straight through to the Champions League group stage.

Fourth place, Lazio's current position, will have 2 extra preliminary games to acces this Champions League group stage.  In case of elimination, they will be dropped into the Europa League group stage.

Fifth place will have 2 extra preliminary games to acces this Europa League group stage, and sixth place 4 extra preliminary games to acces this stage.

See below the current standing, and their remaining five rounds in the Serie A :

1. AC Milan 71
Brescia away - Bologna home - Roma away - Cagliari home - Udinese away

2. Napoli 65
Palermo away - Genoa home - Lecce away - Inter home - Juventus away

3. Inter 63
Lazio home - Cesena away - Fiorentina home - Napoli away - Catania home

4. LAZIO 60
Inter away - Juventus home - Udinese away - Genoa homa - Lecce away

5. Udinese 59
Parma home - Fiorentina away - Lazio home - Chievo away - Milan home

6. AS Roma 53
Chievo home - Bari away - Milan home - Catania away - Sampdoria home

7. Juventus 52
Catania home - Lazio away - Chievo home - Parma away - Napoli home

Week after week, round after round, the Serie A promises to be a real rollercoaster, with many twists and turns, not knowing where the ride will end.

Hopefully, somewhere in Europe !
