18/07/2014: Perea: "I tease Miro because he is very pale"

Brayan Perea is having a quiet summer. A leg break in a collision with Primavera goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha during the final training session last season ruled him out of training in Auronzo di Cadore, and the Colombian forward has spent his summer watching his mentor - Miroslav Klose - power Germany to a famous World Cup win. In an interview with Il Tempo, Perea discusses his rather unique relationship with the Lazio forward and Klose's World Cup campaign.

"He [Klose] told me that he was always focused, waiting for the coach to grant him the opportunity to take to the field. He planned to exploit the weakness of his opponents, take advantage of their fatigue, and break the goal record. Many would like to play alongside the most prolific attacker in a World Cup, but I assure you, to sit down and talk to him is something special."

"I'm the only Colombian at Lazio, am young and at first, did not know any of my teammates. They'd often joke about Juan Pablo Escobar [arguably Colombia's most famous drug lord]... but it is just a joke. I tell them this is all in the past and that if they came to Colombia, they'd leave their wives [presumably for Colombian women]."

"I tease Miro because he is very pale, and he tells me I am lucky to be Colombian and to have my complexion, because I have more luck with the women."

"He is crazy for karting and Formula One. He has a Porsche Cayenne SUV. I ask him why he drives so fast, and he looks at me in a strange way."

"I asked him for his jersey at the World Cup, he said yes. I am very happy to have such a strong partner, I am very proud of him."

Perea's knowledge of Klose extends to the German's footwear and his hobbies:

"Nike send him shoes with special insoles for a foot problem; one is a bit longer than the other."

"Fishing? Yes, I know that is his passion. He wants to come to Colombia to go fish, and wants me to guide him."

"He is always ready to help, always telling me where to position myself. Since I arrived, he tells me I have a lot of physical strength and wants to exploit it in the penalty area. He uses his intuition."
