The Biancocelesti are showing interest in 29 year-old Oranje international Ron Peter Vlaar.
The Capital club who recently signed Stefan De Vrij to a five year contract are now looking to add Netherlands defensive partner Vlaar to their backline by the start of the season.
Both De Vrij and Vlaar played in the World Cup together including many years at Feyenoord.
The Holland international was one of the stars of the World Cup, and only has one year left on his contract at Aston Villa.
“I’m still on holiday with my two children,” he told Voetball Centraal.
“But on Saturday Aston Villa play Groningen and I’ll watch from the stands.”
“After a night in the hotel I’ll then fly back to Birmingham. I still have a year left on my contract and the club don’t want to lose me.”
“I have not thought about a transfer.”
“But my agent will meet with me soon and we will discuss the different options.”
Vlaar appeared in 53 games since joining Aston Villa in 2012.
