Lazio might have had a bad last pre-season game against Serie B side Latina ending in a 1-1 draw at Stadio Flaminio but the young Senegalese winger Keita Balde Diao scored his first goal for the summer which might mean that his form from last season is coming back just before the start of the new season. He spoke right after the game:

First goal of the summer for you – how does it feel?

“I’m happy about it but I hope that I score more in the games that are really important for the club, those that count and bring us points. We try to improve physically and mentally for every game. I have to do better in the coming weeks.”

How do you feel in the 4-3-3 formation?

“I can’t remember the last goal I scored with my head. The new formation is perfect for me and that is how I played as a child in Barcelona. We are growing as a team.”

Last season you were called a surprise, are you ready to step up a notch this season?

“I always want to get on the field and be a leader and have fun. This is my goal and we will see what will happen.”

Do you think the group is too large?

Yes, we have a large group right now. A lot of players are returning from injuries and from international duty. I expect a good year full of satisfaction. If we work well we can achieve good results. We have so many quality players in midfield and attack. The understanding between us is also on a good level. The coach is always trying to fix every little details in our game. This is a good thing, he communicates a lot and this helps us improve. I always try to do better, especially my dribbling skills.”

How do you feel with Tounkara on the pitch?

“I hope that the coach decides to let us play together. It would be nice.”
