18/08/2014: Lazio close in on Gentiletti
email print
Lazio are close to the capture of Argentine centre-back Santiago Gentiletti.

The 29 year-old has been a staple in a San Lorenzo side that were crowned the champions of South America last week, and according to the club's president, the player's transfer to Lazio is imminent.

Gentiletti - who carries an Italian passport and has Croatian heritage - has already had a brief stint in Europe with French club Stade Brestois. He moved there on loan in 2011 off the back of a surprising Clausura championship win with Argentinos Juniors, but it did not work out for him and he began his incredible journey with San Lorenzo in 2012.

The news that Gentiletti is near a move to Rome has come as a surprise as Lazio were said to be close to Vojislav Stankovic, Gentiletti, however, is both-footed and has played at left-back. Although Claudio Lotito expressed a desire to sign one centre-back for th e window closed, it is possible that both players could arrive at Lazio before the Serie A season begins in two weeks time.
