19/08/2014: Door opens for Doria and Stankovic

S.S. Lazio announced this morning that the club has sold Nigerian wing-back Seyi Adeleke to Australian club Western Sydney Wanderers. The deal is significant as according to Serie A's non-EU regulations, the sale of any non-EU player in a transfer window enables a club to bring in another non-EU player in the same window.

As Santiago Gentiletti holds an Italian passport, it is safe to assume that Lazio are working on bringing in an additional reinforcement. There are two possibilities according to the media; Partizan Belgrade's Vojislav Stankovic and Botafogo's Doria.

Both players match Pioli's needs. Having signed De Vrij and utilised him as a right centre-back with Novaretti as his understudy, the media believes Pioli is looking to upgrade on Cana and Ciani with left-footed centre-backs who are pacy and good in the air. Gentiletti fits the bill, but a second acquisition at the right price looks likely following Adeleke's transfer.

Vojislav Stankovic's agent claimed yesterday afternoon that he had spent the day discussing terms with Lazio, but that they will sit down and speak to other interested parties today before making a decision later in the day. He appears to be the most likely candidate due to his affordability.

Il Messaggero have claimed that Lotito's real target is Doria, seeing the 19 year-old - who is widely regarded as Brazil's best defensive talent - as an ideal partner for De Vrij. The media have reported all summer that Botafogo will not release Doria for anything less than 8 million euro, but their financial troubles have been well-documented, and it is not beyond the realms of possibility that Lotito could secure a deal.
