Lazio started off the new campaign with a bang. Pioli’s boys beat Bassano Virtus 7-0 at the Olimpico. The visiting team managed to keep the 0-0 draw for the whole first half but after that a tsunami of goals splashed Bassano’s goalkeeper Rossi. Four new signings were in the starting team (Djordjevic, Basta, De Vrij and Parolo). Three of them managed to score in their debut. Only Djordjevic couldn’t find the net behind Rossi’s goal. Parolo and Basta spoke right after the game. Here is what they said.

“We struggled to find space in the first half and at half time the coach asked us to increase the intensity and we did,” said one of the goalscorers Marco Parolo.

“We are still working to find our best form. The coach is asking us to do certain things and we try to learn them as fast as we can. The important thing tonight was to win the game. Now we must concentrate of our first game of the season against Milan,” added the ex-Parma midfielder.

“In the second half we showed great character, 7-0 is a great result. We have to continue working. It’s very important to start the season well. We still haven’t done anything. We have to stay on the right track,” said the other newcomer in the team Dusan Basta.

“The first steps were made. Next we play Varese that game is too far away right now (December) and our thoughts are towards the start of Serie A against Milan. We have a week to prepare for the season opener and San Siro. We have done well in the pre-season and it will be a hard game because Milan are a tough opponent,” added Basta.
