07/09/2014: "I have come to Italy to learn and develop": De Vrij
email print
"In Italy it is very different to the Dutch league. In Italy the focus is more on tactical training, with the training sessions being interrupted more often if we are defending in a different way. In the Netherlands we are used to defend one on one at any one moment, whereas in Italy they want the central defender to retain his position and protect their area of the pitch".

"I am young and there is a lot of room for improvement. I have come to Italy to learn and develop myself".

De Vrij was then asked about his nation’s match against the Czech Republic next Tuesday, which will see both sides begin their Euro 2016 campaign:

"We did not play well against Italy but Tuesday is a different day and a very important match for us. It is the first in a series of games towards achieving European championship qualification. You always want to start well and I know our team is motivated to do so".

"After that I will turn my attentions again to Lazio and the first home match of the season against Cesena", concluded De Vrij.
