06/10/2014: Pioli: "We have shown some progress but it’s not enough"

Lazio managed to win consecutive games for the first time this season after beating Sassuolo 3-2 at home. Before that Pioli’s men won 4-0 at Palermo. Here is what the team coach said right after the important victory:

Another victory but with a bit more suffering than expected…

“We fought for this victory. In Italy there are no easy games. We had a chance to finish off everything but we missed it. We won with soul, heart and will which is very important. “

Lazio did good in the first half and not so good in the second half.

“We started well and with a lot of confidence in the first ten minutes of the game we could have ended it. Our determination made the difference after Sassuolo came back two times. We will keep on working.”

Why did you change Candreva?

“We needed someone with fresher legs. Candreva had a great game but at the end I saw that he is getting tired and I preferred to give him a bit of rest.”

What about the problems in defense?

“Today we suffered in situations we did not suffer in the past games. We have to work with the midfielders who had the freedom to hold the ball too much.”

How important are these two consecutive wins?

“You grow up with work but you improve with points. The season is long and we have to work so that we can improve our game. We have shown some progress but it’s not enough. I am convinced that this team has a lot of room for improvement. It’s not easy to play with 6 or 7 injured players and I hope that some of them get back to training as soon as possible. “
