09/02/2015: Lotito: "The Italian football system reflects the weaknesses of the country"
email print
Claudio Lotito shared his thoughts about the economical problems in Italy and what has to be done in order for the whole country to get out of the whole which includes Italian football as well.

"For several years the Italian football system reflects the weaknesses of the country - both in economic and social terms. We are among the most in debt countries in Europe".

"In the 2012/13 season the total debts of the clubs in Italy was 2.9 billion euro (+1.9% compared to the previous season, 2011/12)".

Lotito also gave his approval on the Financial Fair Play rules which should make more clubs invest in a better way and think before they spend lots of money for one or two players.

"In order for football to continue being a social phenomenon things like identification, belonging and emotions aren't enough but the approval of the Financial Fair Play is a step in the right direction. I will do everything I can for the approval of a budget restriction that will make clubs invest intelligently and focusing on their youth systems".

He ended the interview with hope that things can/will change...

"We have to give a good example to our country".
