01/07/2015: LazioLand Player of the Season - 3rd: Felipe Anderson
email print
Felipe Anderson had a wonderful break out season with Lazio this campaign, he finds himself third on this list of Lazio’s top 5 players of the year for the 2014-15 Serie A season. Anderson featured in 32 games for Lazio this season, the games he missed were due to injury and suspension, Anderson rarely started on the bench, if he did so it was to rest or to establish his presence early on. Anderson was on the pitch for a total of 2,095 minutes for Lazio in Serie A this season, he would have played more but came in off the bench early in the season until he finally earned himself a starting birth, once he did, his place in the Lazio starting eleven was all but cemented. It wasn’t until December of 2014 when Anderson found his stride for the Biancocelesti; in fact, Anderson didn’t pick up his first Serie A goal or assist until December 7th of 2014, in a 2-1 victory over Parma, from that point onwards the young man began to shine. Anderson was an integral part of Lazio’s eight game winning streak this season, which was of course ultimately ended by Juventus in April of 2015. Statistically, Anderson was among Lazio’s leaders this campaign, his hard work earned him ten goals and eight assists, very impressive numbers for a twenty-one year old, his maturity shined bright this year and earned him notoriety across Europe. Anderson is naturally left footed and enjoys playing in a more attacking role of the left side of the midfield, he successfully found a midfield partner in Candreva this season and the two men constantly changed sides to attempt to create different attacking schemes for their opposition.

It is hard to pin point a match in which Anderson should be most recognized, probably because there were several matches in which he was the absolute difference in Lazio emerging victorious. It is impossible not to mention the man in the highest regard in at least five matches this season. In draws against Roma and Inter, both by scores if 2-2, Anderson was the most visible man on the field from both squads, his hard worked earned him two goals against Inter and a goal and a helper against Roma, without him on the field in these two matches Lazio would have been hard done by to deliver a result. In the first match back after the Christmas break Anderson single handily dismantled Sampdoria in a 3-0 victory scoring once and setting up twice, a performance that prompted then Sampdoria coach Mihalovic to praise the young man’s performance. In March of 2015 Anderson was on a complete tear, Anderson silenced Torino 2-0 and Fiorentina could barely keep hold of him in a 4-0 victory. Although his goal marching towards the Torino net from his own end is a highly touted tally this campaign, it is a goal against Sassuolo, also in March, that was world class strike which truly displayed the incredible talent that Anderson has become for Lazio; his technical ability is a privilege to watch. Anderson was also a crucial contributor to Lazio’s Coppa Italia success this season; he picked up both assists in the home and away semi-final ties against Napoli. Anderson was a pleasure to watch for all Laziali this season and we hope that he will continue to develop and prosper in a Lazio jersey!
