  21/09/2015: Report: Napoli 5-0 Lazio
email print
Lazio were in Naples Sunday evening in the Serie A match of the week to take on Napoli. Both teams eagerly anticipated this match and hoped to keep pace with undefeated Inter who were victorious earlier in the day over Chievo.

Marchetti picked up the start for Lazio in goal, in front of him was the support of both Mauricio and Hoedt in the center of defence. Basta and Radu started for Lazio on the right and left hand sides of defence as suspected. In midfield for Lazio, Parolo and Onazi started in the deeper central roles. The three higher playing midfielders included Keita on the right and Lulic on the left flank, Mauri started in the central playmaker role, playing just behind Matri, the lone striker for Lazio up front in attack. Notable healthy omissions from Lazio's starting eleven included Anderson, Kishna and Cataldi.

Napoli came out quickly with pace and we're collectively putting pressure on Lazio. Keita played a nice ball back to Onazi four minutes in but his shot went well over the Napoli goal. Right back the other way and Marchetti made a great save off a Higuain tip. Keita should really have put Lazio in the lead in the 7th minute when Basta passed it back to him in the Napoli box, his shot went over the target. Again right back the other way and Napoli looked dangerous, Lazio looked suspect on the counter attack as the game was still unsettled.

Napoli took the lead from Higuain in the 14th minute after he completely out hustled Hoedt to win the ball and then proceeded to turn him inside out, 1-0 Napoli early in the first half. Lulic picked up a yellow card in the 19th minute for a very poorly timed challenge, Napoli continued to control play. It was 2-0 for Napoli in the 35th minute, once again Hoedt was caught lost wondering around in outer space and Allen finished with authority, if there was any doubt, the rout was officially on, Lazio were non existent up to this point in the match, they could only pray and hope for nothing more other than the half time whistle.

Within three minutes of the second half Napoli found their 3rd from Insigne, 3-0 Napoli and the embarrassment for Lazio continued, a painful display of football. It was Napoli once again in the 59th minute and they went up by a score of 4-0, Hoedt missed his challenge on Higuain, his naivety and inexperience showed today, however young players must be given the opportunity to learn. Savic and Anderson were Pioli's halftime substitutions and both were still unexsistent in the match up to the fourth goal. Gabbiadini made it 5-0 for Napoli in the 79th minute and Lazio were looking for the tunnel.

There really isn't much to be said from this result other than Napoli have clearly found their form and Lazio are once again left scratching their heads looking for answers. A mid week affair against Genoa, a club who Lazio have not had much success against over the past two seasons, will be the next task for the Biancocelesti. Without a result back home in Rome achieved for Lazio against Genoa on Wednesday, consider the panic button officially pushed.

Forza Lazio!
