  26/09/2015: Preview: Verona - Lazio
email print
Lazio head the the Stadio Marc'Antonio Bentegodi on Sunday to take on Hellas Verona. Lazio have already fallen mightily in this stadium earlier in this seasons Serie A campaign by a score of 4-0 to Chievo. It is not the losses from Lazio's record that jump out at you but rather the manner upon which they have occurred that is disturbing. Hellas will be without firepower upfront as Toni will miss out due to injury and Pazzini looks doubtful. Hellas are a hard working team that are dangerous and capable of obtaining a result against any competition in Serie A.

Lazio were able to put some bad luck behind them the last time out in Serie A as they beat Genoa by a score of 2-0. A first half goal post by Rincon and a world class save by Marchetti and Lazio could have easily headed to the tunnels behind at half time. Djordjevic was able to return to the Lazio line up against Genoa and he picked up his first goal of the season, expect more from him against Hellas as Matri will likely not be available due to injury. Felipe Anderson's goal to seal the deal for Lazio was a brilliant strike, the space he was afforded may perhaps not have been there had Genoa not gone down to ten men on the pitch. Also expect more from Anderson, he should start and be full of confidence, he is a difference maker for Lazio.

The return to European football has made things very busy for Lazio and tested their resolve. Another three game week is upon them as they have a Europa League fixture mid week. Lazio must show that they can deliver results during this busy time, this is the difference between world class squads and average ones. Lazio will be slightly weakened due to injury as De Vrij, Biglia, Candreva and Klose will all be unavailable to Pioli.

Lazio will need to weather the early storm, if they are able to do so they may be able to deliver a result. Lazio's away record thus far has been horrible and they simply need to turn this around and be able to pick up points outside of Rome. Lazio are a quality squad and must put past results behind them and focus only on the moment at hand. If Lazio are able to push forward aggressively as they are capable of they should be able to stretch Verona and earn themselves some real quality chances on goal. Now is time time for the real Lazio to shine, this is an important week and a successful string of results will put some poor past performances long behind them.

Projected line-up: Marchetti, Radu, Mauricio, Gentiletti, Basta, Parolo, Cataldi, Anderson, Mauri, Lulic, Djordjevic.

Forza Lazio!
