08/05/2011: Reja: "We paid for our mistakes..."

A disappointed Edy Reja spoke to Sky after Lazio's loss to Udinese made the qualification to the Champions League more of a mirage.

"We made several defensive mistakes and we were penalized by Udinese. Other than that, it was a balanced encounter. Had we been more careful, we would have limited the damage. Udinese kept on doing the same things, our defense should have memorized it. When you concede like we did in the second goal, one is lost for words." said a bitter Reja.

Il mister continued: "In the second half we played much better, but we were unlucky just as we were in many of the games this season. Now we can only do our best for the coming two games to finish as high as possible in the standings."

Then Reja reflected on the season and somehow conceded defeat in the battle for fourth: "We missed many points despite the team always trying its best. But when we lose against teams like Roma, Inter, Napoli and now Udinese, this means that we must concede that we have have a limit for this team. We were helped by the fixture dates in some games, even though we had some refereeing incidents against us."

Then Edy was questioned about his reaction to Zarate's penalty miss.

"Penalties can go wrong sometimes, Zarate thought the keeper would move but he did not. This incident could have changed the game as we were starting to be better than Udinese when they were a man down and a bit tired. But remember, Zarate is the player who played most this season in terms of minutes. He is a very important player to us even though sometimes he slows down the play." concluded Edy Reja.
