  11/05/2011: I prefer last season
email print

Without a doubt we all remember last year, a season in which we were all ashamed, disgusted, and disappointed. The team did not play well, the president did not act, the results were horrible. Our Lazio fought against relegation, a shame, a disaster, something none of the fans deserved. We lost matches that a club like Lazio should never lose. We were humiliated by the media, by our enemies. We were attacked without much reason. But we survived, and that is because we are laziali.

This season we surprised everyone. The media talked more about us last season, when we were fighting against relegation, than this season, when we were playing at the top of the league. While last season they would attack us severely, now they would ignore us severely. Every little detail that they could pick up was used against us, because their frustration took over. They never believed that we would stay at the top of the league during the whole season, yet we did, and it irritated them massively.

Yet, I prefer last season.
Because I remember when thousands of fans came on the streets out of love for our Lazio, in an attempt to save the club. I remember how thousands of laziali travelled all over Italy to support the struggling team. Several thousands in Genova, in Bologna, hundreds in Livorno when it all didn’t matter anymore. The results were horrible, yet the club was alive.

This season, on the other hand, did not appeal to me in so many ways. We remember how the Italian government introduced something that would decrease the attendances around Italy even more, and make disappear the atmosphere in so many stadiums. I remember how the stadium was empty in Rome, even when we were doing well. I remember the lost derby, and another one, and another one. I notice how certain teams must and will play Champions League, whatever it takes, while we will end up with little or nothing.

Yes, I prefer last season.
