12/05/2011: No Champions League could change Lazio's market
email print
As Lazio look more likely to play in the Euro League next season, the team's transfer strategy has to also adjust. Champions League qualification is difficult but not impossible but Lazio will invest regardless but not to the same level that fourth place could afford us to.

For the attack the most interest seems to be around Catania's Maxi Lopez. The Argentine is keen to play in Rome after his transfer fell through last season. Lopez is valued at 10 million and Lotito could offer youngster Libor Kozak as part of the deal. Alberto Gilardino remains a possible target. This idea was proposed by his agent (now the same agent as Mauro Zarate). Djibril Cisse of Panathinaikos is also another possibilty.

Lorik Cana is still the top target for midfield. Expect negotiations to escalate next month. Cana's versatility is appealing to Reja as he can play in midfield and also in the centre of defence as he does for the national team. A new name has been thrown into the mix. The 10 million rated Etienne Capoue, who plays for Toulouse, who has recently been called up to the national team. Another possibilty is Rosenberg youngster Markus Henriksen, 19 years old, who despite his age already posseses great character, personality and technique on the field. He is valued at 5 million.

Lulic is a realistic target for the left of defence. The Young Boys defender has a Swiss passport and a deal could be reached for about 2 million. Ziegler remains a mystery at this moment. A deal was all but signed but delays from the player left Lotito frustrated and has decided to pursue other options. Juventus are not giving up on their quest for Stephan Lichsteiner. He is not for sale but has a sell on clause in his contract for 11 million Euros, a fee Juventus will be willing to part with.

Whatever tournament Lazio qualify for, if any, it will be another interesting summer mercato.
