17/05/2011: Reja: "We need a miracle"

Speaking to Lazio Style Radio, Reja was not very optimistic about the chances of getting the 4th place but insists that Lazio need a miracle to get the champions league qualification spot.

Reja was asked about his opinion of Lazio's season, and Reja seemed to be satisfied with the overall performance of Lazio in Serie A of 2010/2011.

"We could have achieved more, especially looking at some of our games this past season. We don't know in what position we will finish yet, but Udinese need only a point, and Milan already won the scudetto. We have no other option but to play for a win and wait, knowing that no matter what, this has been an extraordinary season, we have already secured our Europa League qualification." said Reja.

Reja was then asked about the game against Lecce and the chances of qualification, and the tactician said:

"It is important to garauntee the 5th place, and we cannot do that without a win at Lecce. Garaunteeing the 5th position would help us avoid the early qualifying stages of Europa League which in turn would give us time to prepare well for next season. But winning at Lecce will not be easy, Lecce will be playing on their own turf and would be looking forward to celebrate salvation with their fans. If we win at Lecce we would have to wait for the result of Udinese against Milan who have already been celebrating their win for 2 weeks now, I don't see them fighting for their lives against Udinese. I guess we would have to pray for a miracle, but in football you never know !"

Reja then took a moment to thank former Lazio player and current Catania coach Diego Simeone whom by his win over Roma has given Lazio the satisfaction of fending off the competition: "I have to thank Simeone, he beat the giallorossi and gave us peace of mind. Now after this week we will have to start thinking about next season, the club wants to improve and the president is ready to strengthen the team." a statement by Reja that carries a hint towards his future with the club.
