20/06/2011: Lotito on Cisse, Zarate, Marchetti, Konko and Lichtsteiner

The Serie A league assembly today was billed as an opportunity to progress our mercato and find out a bit more about our transfer activity.

This afternoon, Claudio Lotito cleared up a few matters.

On Cisse: "Do I like Cisse? I am the president, not the coach. The evaluations must be undertaken by the Director of Sport (Igli Tare) and must have the approval of our coach. I have the final say. These things can be related to other matters, such as outgoing players."

This could be taken as a hint that Sergio Floccari or Mauro Zarate will leave. Lotito was quizzed on the latter:

"No one is indispensible. We have had offers but none are at dizzy heights but if they came, we could deal. This is a new Lazio that is moving with the market. We look at the growth prospects, not at individual ability but what benefits the team. We did not put him on the market but we have received offers."

Lotito then elaborated on Lichtsteiner:

"If a player does not believe in our project, we can let go. For example, we have not sold Lichtsteiner but if the conditions are right, if the oportunity suits both parties, it can happen."

Lotito went on to say that the project has changed in recent years:

"We took this company away from a funeral, it was in a coma. Now we want to do well nationally and internationally and we will invest accordingly."

Lotito also confirmed his interest in Marchetti, perhaps even hinting that a deal was done.

"Federico Marchetti is one of those players that I like. I think he has the ability to do well in Rome."

He was, however, much less enthusiastic about Abdoulay Konko:

"In life, a player can want what he wants. If someone takes a stand that is linked only to their economic position then we will not adhere to their interests. We focus on morals, we look at potential, competitivity and the economics. When these conditions are in place, we will acquire these players. We have always based decisions on this and will continue to do so."
