The players have arrived at Auronzo di Cadore for pre-season training. Corriere dello Sport reports that a posse of 45 people are present once staff and squad are counted and that is set to become 46 as Edy Reja confirms the suspicions of LazioLand that Djibril Cisse has been a done deal for quite some time.
Cisse is said to be in Rome to conclude the deal as swiftly as possible before joining forces with the rest of the boys in Auronzo.
In his press conference, Reja said that, while the market was not over, Lazio have managed to sign the players they have been linked with and that this sends a message to the fans that the club is able to achieve its objectives. He thanked Lotito for his hard work and reiterated Lotito's words by saying that he must now find space for the players and that the space he finds may be at other clubs.
Reja hinted that somebody is about to depart soon. When asked about using Hernanes as the playmaker for Klose and Cisse, Reja said:
"That is the idea, but before we talk about Cisse, we should wait until the deal is closed. The deal was done a long time ago but before he can become one of us, someone needs to be released."
These remarks will undoubtedly fuel speculation that Zarate and/or Floccari will be on their way out.
Reja also said that the goal of the mercato is to create a squad that can fight on all fronts, admitting that he wants to be in a position to rotate our squad between competitions.
In terms of formations, Reja said that the intention is to remain with the 4-3-1-2 but that the plethora of midfielders at Lazio's disposal may make him reconsider and try out a defensive trio. Reja says he has faith in Konko being able to play right-back but he wants to speak to Lulic about functioning as a left-back.
As yet, there is little to report about the individuals at this early stage. The main mission is to condition the players, to work off the calories of the odd summer kebab or the double cheeseburger. The players had a brief training session in the afternoon following a spell in the gym. A customary friendly against a team made up of ordinary locals is scheduled for Sunday and after that, Lazio will focus heavily on getting the tactics right for the new season.
