18/07/2011: And so it begins... but where will it end?
email print
According to the BBC, ex-Lazio player and manager, Roberto Mancini has confirmed that a deal is in place to send their star forward Carlos Tevez back to South America with Brazilian side Corinthians.

The news should worry Lazio fans. The 'natural replacement' for the Argentine is his fellow countryman Sergio Aguero and it is believed that Manchester City will secure his signing if Tevez can agree terms with Corinthians.

Aguero's desire to leave Spain is incredibly strong, so much so that British newspaper The Daily Mirror believes he will actually take a pay cut to join the world's richest club. Manchester City are obvious frontrunners since Juventus pulled out of negotiations recently to chase after Villarreal's Italian striker Giuseppe Rossi. Their end to the negotiations coincided with reports in the UK that Aguero was heading in the Manchester direction.

With this chain of events likely to unfold now, the next question is, will Atletico Madrid seek out their natural replacement and table the 22-25 million euro for Mauro Zarate that the Italian media have been rumouring? It is a known fact that Djibril Cisse moved to Lazio in the hope that Lazio could sell off another striker. The prime candidate to move was Sergio Floccari, as Parma were interested and Lotito has stated that the player was unhappy but should Atletico come calling, can Lotito resist a bid that he and Zarate's agent said in the past would be most definitely considered?
