01/08/2011: Reja: "We will be ready for Europe"

Lazio coach Eduardo Reja gave an interview after the friendly with Villarreal. Speaking to il Corriere dello Sport Reja said:

"We're still not right, we need to improve technically and tactically. They (Villarreal) are already on the ball, you know by their heart, they are ahead in preparation, we are still heavy. We started the match badly and were unable to impose our game. I am convinced that the results will come, the team is working to grow".

Reja then spoke about the mistakes which took place during the game: "The mistakes were made and should be avoided. At this moment the results do not count, they are friendlies but it is right to claim something more from these games. On Wednesday we will begin to work, we'll investigate some tactical issues."

Reja commented on his two new signings Klose and Cisse: "They want to be useful at Lazio, they are two good guys who make themselves available to the team. They have great quality and we must make sure that they can express themselves according to their characteristics".

Lazio will find themselves back at Formello on Wednesday and Reja has the task of trimming down the size of the squad. "We have to make choices, we are used to working with 25 men. Now we will see, I don't however agree with the cases used to explain the division of the team. I needed the players to play for 90 minutes, the two friendlies were planned with this goal". Reja then gave his opinion on the two training camps at Auronzo di Cadore and Fiuggi. "We can be satisfied, we did a good job. As I said, before we can reap the fruits we have to move forward athletically. The goal is to reach 80% by August 18th, the Europa League debut".

Finally Reja commented on Francelino Matuzalem who impressed in the friendly with Villarreal. "Matuzalem has excellent quality. In midfield we have several options, it's up to me to choose the best. I am convinced the team will grow with a little patience".
