15/08/2011: Reja admits: "I have too many strikers"

After the game against Real Sociedad, Reja hailed his new signing Djibril Cisse but also admitted that he expects some of his strikers to leave before the transfer window ends.

Talking about Cisse, Reja said, "He has great speed, strenght and is also clinical in front of goal. However, I prefer to use him in a wide position as we already have many central strikers". Then the boss added, "I expect that some of them will be sold".

Sculli, Rocchi and the new boys Cisse and Klose are assured of their place in the team. However, the future of others remains to be seen. Sergio Floccari has widely been tipped to leave Lazio as he interests clubs in Italy, Germany and Portugal, but Lotito's asking price is still blocking the transfer. Sergio has been left out of Europa League squad to face Rabotnicki so it's clear that Reja doesn't see a future for him at the club.

Future of another striker Mauro Zarate is still hanging up in the air. Despite his agent repeatedly insisting that Maurito is going to remain at Lazio, there are rumours that Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Paris Saint-Germain and most recently, Spartak Moscow are following the situation of Argentinian. Lazio admitted in the summer that if the right offer (rumoured to be about 20 million euro) comes, they will sell Zarate. His future is likely to be solved next Thursday, in the Europa League game against Rabotnicki. If Maurito plays, he would become cup-tied for European competitions and almost certainly remain at Lazio.

Situation of Libor Kozak is also interesting. The Czech Under-21 international said, "I don't know about my future, it does not depend on me now". Reja wants to loan him out for next season as there is no shortage of suitors: Brescia, Cesena, Bologna and Fiorentina. However, Lotito and Tare want to keep Kozak at the club because they feel that he would benefit from playing together with players like Cisse and Klose.

And lastly, there is Stephen Makinwa. The club wants to get rid of him as does the fans, who booed him at the official team presentation. Last month, Makinwa rejected an option to join Lega Pro team Benevento and that angered the fans. Last week, Lazio had another chance to sell him. Russian club Terek Grozny were interested in acquiring the nigerian, but Lotito asked for 1.5 million and russians pulled out of the deal. It remains to be seen wheter Makinwa will leave the club or see out the rest of his contract which ends next year...
