23/08/2011: Reja: Zarate wants to leave

According to Lazio coach Edy Reja, Mauro Zarate wants to leave Lazio. Almost whole press conference today was dedicated to possible departure of Maurito. The coach sensationaly claimed that Zarate refused to play on Thursday because he didn't want to get cup-tied.

Reja said, "It was Zarate who pulled out of the game. As far as i'm concerned, he was on our UEFA list but refused to play. He didn't want to get cup-tied as it would make his transfer away from Lazio much more complicated". However, manager denied that he has an antipaty towards Zarate, "To me, all my players are equal. The comments of his brother and agent don't matter to me. Rumours like that make me angry".

The manager also denied that he is pushing for the sale of Zarate, "I gave some advice for the club, but I never said that I want someone to leave. If he leaves, we don't have a replacement planned for him. But if he stays, I would be happy because it would give more alternatives to the team".

Reja then added, "Any disciplinary action is up to the club, not me. Zarate's qualities are undeniable, but his attitude needs to change. Maurito came to training about 5kg overweight, I can't ignore things like that. Soon he will become a father and I hope that will make him more responsible. He can mature and improve much, but it all depends on him".

Finally, the coach said, "I'm tired to be the only one criticized. Enough is enough. We've had a great transfer campaign, spending more than usual, and we hope that the results will come. I've been in football for 50 years, I know how to manage a team."
