09/09/2011: Luigi Martini: "Lazio will fight for Scudetto"

Speaking to Radio Mana Mana, the former biancoceleste who played in the scudetto team of 1974 believes that this year the chances are good for Lazio to repeat a scudetto race.

"I am sure that Lazio will be fighting for the scudetto until the end. The team is very strong and does not miss anything. If the right spirit is there, we could be looking at a season of great satisfaction." said Luigi Martini.

With Milan Lazio being played today, Luigi believes that despite the difficulty of the encounter, the team can make Milan sweat.

"Despite being obviously a difficult game, I believe Lazio will not face lots of problems facing strong opponents this year. I am a believer that the best defense is the attack and when a team is determined to win, it happens. The group must be united and players must sacrifice for the team." said the former full back.

Martini who is very optimistic for this season, believes that Lazio has now all the credentials needed to achieve something big.

"This year the team can bring a championship like Europa League or the Scudetto, and I prefer the latter. The coach has great experience and the president has given him what he needs."

Luigi was then asked to comment on the Zarate situation, and apparently the split of opinion continues around this controversial topic.

"Something had to be done with Zarate, it has been something that has been dragging too long. I am not very familiar with the details of the situation but I think the correct decision has been taken."

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis also mentioned that he considers Lazio along with Inter, Milan, Juventus, and his own Napoli one of the title contenders for the Scudetto. De Laurentiis made the statement during Napoli's jersey presentation for the new season.
