Fiorentina and Lazio lock horns in the last round before a needed international break, at least for the Romans. Participating in two competitions has brought fatigue to the team, and Coach Edy Reja started the interview by stating just that: “The hectic game schedule is taking its victims, but we have to handle this. I want a win before the break so that we can get some calamity and proper rest. Fiorentina look strong, but we look good as well.”For Viola the season has started brighter than expected, but Fiorentina tactician Sinisa Mihajlovic is not surprised at all: “We have a strong team that has had some problems to deal with, but we have matured greatly this season. We will do everything we can to beat Lazio because our aim is to end as high up in the table as possible. I want us to go in to the international break belonging to the top.” The Serbian coach also admitted it is always emotional to face his former team Lazio, but that it is a part of the game and that he always tries to stay professional.
Asked about the weak results so far, Reja underlined his view on the team. “We play good football, but so far we have been failing in front of both goals. In attack we are not scoring enough, despite having an immense Klose at our disposal, and defensively we have been underperforming in most games. We need to focus more on getting the defensive line under control”. A proof of Reja not being satisfied with the backline, Stankevicius is expected to be tested with Dias in the central defence, according to repubblica.it.
Mihajlovic, on the other hand, expressed his concern for his team as there are some worries of players not being able to start. Gilardino and Kroldrup are confirmed as missing the game, both being crucial players for his team, but Mihajlovic told the press he will have to wait until Sunday morning before taking the final decisions; “2-3 players will be decided on during the match day. I need to think about fielding the strongest possible team, but at the same time not risk any injuries.”
Lastly, the Viola coach had some words for his counterpart in Lazio. Mihajlovic said “Reja is a great man and a great coach. The season has just started and I really do not understand the criticism towards him. But saying that, the coach of Lazio always has to realise how important the derby is. Reja needs to win a derby with his team.”
