12/10/2011: Castroman: "I will never forget that Derby..."

It was the year 2001, April 29th to be exact and Lazio were losing 2-1 to Roma and it was deep into stoppage time. Lazio were awarded a corner in the 95th minute. Sinisa Mihajlovic whipped the corner into the box, which was cleared by the Roma defense, only for the ball to be met by the foot of Lucas Castroman who struck a screamer from 20-yards and rippled the net past a helpless Antonioli to send the Lazio fans into raptures.

"I got chills again reliving the goal in the Derby. I took flight at the Olimpico in that beautiful moment in my life", said Castroman to Radio Match 105.8. "A beautiful evening, that goal will make me remember all the fans in Rome, Laziali and Romanisti, for better or for worse. I remember everything about that moment, the shot, running under the Curva Nord with Nesta and Stankovic. We were losing 2-0 and if Roma had won we would have mortgaged the league, it was the most incredible day of my life".

"My teammates told me; 'You do not understand what you did today, you're part of history with this goal'. (The Derby) is an incredible party, here in Argentina it is the Boca-River derby but the Rome Derby is amazing. Fifteen days before the game the party starts".

Remembering again that day Castroman said: "Roma was a good team with players such as Batistuta, Montella, Totti, Cafu and Candela, they were to be respected but we were not afraid of them as we had Simeone, Veron, Nesta, Crespo and Stankovic.

Castroman finished with a message to the Lazio fans. "I always thank them for the affection you have always given me. I returned to Italy in 2010 and their affection for me was still alive. I have them in my heart".
