Match Preview

Lazio and Fiorentina faced each other in an important game which could show the right way towards Europe for both teams.

The so called six-pointer starter well for Lazio and Pioli’s men controlled the game in the first 10-15 minutes of the match. Even though they had most of the possession they didn’t manage to make anything dangerous in front of Neto’s goal. After those first good minutes for Lazio Fiorentina took advantage and started playing better but like their guests they couldn’t manage to make Marchetti to show his class. In the first half an hour both teams had a few shots at goal but none could be categorized as difficult ones for the goalkeepers. 35 minutes into the game Lazio managed to make a really good and fast counter attack and Candreva found Djordjevic in the penalty area where the Serb showed that he is in fantastic form and scored his 5th goal in his last 3 games for the club. Just before the end of the first 45 minutes Lazio had one more great chance to double their advantage but instead of shooting towards the goal searching for his second goal of the day Djordjevic  decided to pass the ball towards Candreva who’s shot was saved from Neto.

It’s was obvious that Montella had to make some changes to his team in order to see something better from his men in the second half and the young coach decided that Borja Valero was the man who can turn the game around for Fiorentina. They started the half aggressive and were searching for an early equalizer but they just missed the last scoring shot which players like Gomez and Rossi could give them. The home team were pushing strongly in their search for a goal but things always went wrong for them in the last phase of the game where someone had to take the right shot. Pioli’s men looked like were ready to play a counter attacking style in the second half and defend their one goal advantage. Aqualini was the player who had the best chance of the game for Fiorentina but he hit the side bar after a well-played foul with Pizarro. That was their biggest chance of the game and until the end they only managed to take a few more shots on goal which were well handled by Marchetti and the defense in front of him. Lazio’s had a few really good counter attacks and in one of them Candreva was a bit too late with his pass and managed to win only a corner but minutes later Candreva again was involved in another counter attack and this time there was no mistake with the pass and Lulic scored in front of the empty net to assure Lazio’s win.
