Lazio vs Empoli
Match Date: 12-04-2015
Location: Rome
Stadium Olimpico
Referee Peruzzo
Time 15:00 CET
Lazio host Empoli at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome Sunday afternoon and look to keep their hopes for Champions league football alive. Lazio are in great form at the moment and have won eight matches in a row now, including the Wednesday night 1-0 victory over Napoli to reach the final of the Coppa Italia. Empoli last played to a hard fought 2-0 loss to league leaders Juventus and it must be noted that they held their own and played a very respectable match. Empoli are well coached and are a strong group that are hard to beat, look only to their fifteen draws in Serie A.

Marchetti picked up an injury in training and will not be available for 2-3 weeks as her recovers from his broken nose, in his absence; Berisha will start in net this weekend for Lazio. Berisha will need to continue to be confident around the ball, he did well against Napoli, and with that match behind him his nerves should be much calmer. It is hard to say what the defensive core will look like for Lazio this weekend against Empoli, Mauricio and Basta are both unavailable due to suspension and Radu still looks unfit to go. My suspicion tells me that Cana may start in the centre of defence with De Vrij, since the arrival of Mauricio on loan in January Cana has not seen much time, he is really next in line off the Lazio bench that has experience in the centre back role. Cavanda should take the place of Basta on the right hand side of defence; given how well Lulic played coming off the bench against Napoli mid-week, you have to believe he will start at left back over Braafheid. It is really all up in the air in the defensive core for Lazio on Sunday, the starting line-up Pioli chooses will be interesting.

Lazio will more than likely dawn their 4-2-3-1 formation on Sunday, Pioli has tended to use this formation quite often in recent fixtures with great success. In front of the defence we will see Parolo and Biglia in the deeper midfield roles. In front of Biglia and Parolo we should see Mauri start, he did not against Napoli mid-week in favour of Cataldi and I expect him to this weekend. On the flanks, it is hard not to imagine anyone other than Felipe Anderson and Candreva starting on the left and right hand sides, they are both in excellent form and are integral parts of the run Lazio are currently on. In the centre of attack for Lazio it should be Klose once again leading the charge; this would be the third game in a week for the veteran German so we should see Keita in some way or another.

This is a match that Lazio should seek to exact revenge for the trap loss at the hands of Empoli they were handed earlier this season. Only one point separates Lazio from second place Roma, with only eight games remaining in the Serie A Campionatio, second is clearly the goal. Only nine games remain in Serie A and every point is crucial, every point dropped for Lazio can only be considered a mistake that simply cannot happen. Lazio are unified at the moment and have the utmost respect for their coach, the signs are good for another victory. Lazio will need to play the full ninety minutes and not let up for even a moment or they will find themselves in the same situation they were in the last time they played Empoli. Lazio are a deep squad and regardless of the absences of regular starters this weekend, they will still put a solid performance together, fully expect a strong and aggressive attacking Lazio.

Forza Lazio!
