Lazio host Parma in Rome on Wednesday for yet another tough test against a worthy opponent. Lazio must do so with a depleted roster due to both injuries and suspensions. Lazio are coming off yet another draw against Chievo, there is really nothing that Marchetti could have done from the blast Paloschi let loose on him, it was a perfect half volley. On Sunday, Lazio did not play a poor match against Chievo and perhaps should have earned a victory, but ultimately the side did not show enough to earn the full three points. Parma are coming off another win in Serie A, this time courtesy of a Nocerino penalty, and were victorious by a score of 1-0 over Palermo.

The reverse fixture of Lazio and Parma had Lazio come out on top by a score of 2-1, a controversial victory and one that came by the skin of their teeth. Lazio are currently in second place in the Serie A table, by one point over Roma, Napoli are only three more points adrift in fourth place, it must be stated that Napoli hold the advantage with only six games remaining in the league this season, one of course against Lazio.

We will likely see a similar line-up on the field for Lazio in this match as was seen against Chievo. Marchetti will start in net for Lazio, he did not play poorly against Chievo and he cannot be faulted for the goal from a positioning perspective, still why not give Berisha the opportunity?! Berisha has earned his keep. If the rumours are indeed true that Marchetti may be the likely candidate to take over for Handanovic in Inter, it would be welcomed; strength in goal is needed for the Biancocelesti.

In defence for Lazio, we will likely see Pioli field Novaretti and Mauricio yet again partnered in the middle. They should be flanked on the sides by both Radu and Basta on the left and right hand sides respectively, Radu has worked himself back into game fitness and needs to show more in order to earn his spot on the field, the left hand side of Lazio’s defence is a weak link. Basta always shows up on the right hand side, he was strong once again on Sunday versus Chievo and we should expect more of the same on Wednesday versus Parma.

Let’s hope that somehow Lazio are able to show more in midfield during this match, Parolo and Biglia were clearly missed in the Chievo match and they will once again not be available against Parma due to injury. Cataldi returns from suspension but it is not clear if Pioli will give him a start, to be honest he is not quite mature enough to fill into any of the absentees shoes. If Cataldi does not earn the start, we should see Ledesma, Onazi and Lulic once again, hopefully the second game together will prove enough repetition for this trio to gain enough confidence to put in a more inspiring performance. More is definitely needed from Lazio in the midfield, this is the most important part of the field and Lazio were uninspiring the last time out.

In attack for Lazio, Miroslav Klose will inevitably lead the charge in the middle; he requested substitution in the Chievo match but should be healthy to start. If Klose is unable to start it is Keita Balde time, it is time for him to put in a performance for all of us faithful Laziali to remember. On the left and right hand sides of the attack for Lazio we should see Felipe Anderson and Candreva, more inspiration in attack from both men will be needed in this match if Lazio hope to take home the full three points. Candreva continues to deliver consistent showings but it appears that Anderson has had a dip in form, fully expect him to make amends for the poor performance the last time out and be the difference. Mauri’s health is unknown and he once again may not be able to feature for Lazio, this is unfortunate as the Lazio captain has had a great campaign and his leadership on this field is noticeably missed.

Lazio will be tested once again; playing three times in seven days in league play with a depleted squad is a tough task. This match on Wednesday against Parma has trap written all over it; Lazio cannot afford to take Parma Lightly and must enter this match with the utmost confidence and mental fortitude. If Lazio are able to continue to dream about Champions League play next season, these are exactly the type of matches the must be won, no excuses can be made and depth must shine bright or be exposed. The run in for Lazio is extremely difficult, looking forward can be costly, and this will be a test of fortitude.

Forza Lazio!
